The city creates land bounded by today’s East Berkeley Street, the original shoreline, Northampton Street, and a line from the intersection of Northampton Street and Columbus Avenue to the intersection of Tremont Street and Clarendon Street. It is completed in the mid-1830s, and Tremont Street is laid out on the new made land to improve access to the South End
